Gleeson Ave House
Photography by Matthew Carbone
Gleeson House is a thoughtful study in contrasting the new with the old. This project involved a modest alteration and addition to an original 1980s Australian brick house, taking an honest approach to preserving the building's existing character while integrating modern elements. Rather than a complete makeover, the design intentionally retains the home's "surf style" beach holiday feel, restoring it to its former glory with a contemporary twist.
The external transformation features new off-form concrete and striking Anodised Bronze glazing that reacts beautifully with the surrounding native gardens. One of the most significant additions is a new concrete balcony extension that offers an open-plan internal layout overlooking the local golf course. Inside, a high level of finishes ensures that the home will stand up to the harsh coastal salt conditions for decades to come. The result is a special, purposeful series of spaces where the refined architecture blends seamlessly into the hero of the property: the lush, native landscaping.
Features:
Anodised Bronze Windows and Doors: Sleek, modern glazing in a natural tone.
Feature Bronze Steel Railings and Screens: Elegant metalwork that complements the bronze scheme.
Blackbutt Timber Detailing: Natural Australian hardwood used for windows and doors.
Off-Form Concrete: Rugged, modern architectural elements including the new balcony.
